The countdown to Christmas is on! If you need some holiday spirit inspiration, look no further! Walter Electric has been helping Maryland families get merrier with our favorite Festive Holiday Lighting Ideas to turn your home into a Winter Wonderland.

  • Timers — A great way to set it and forget it!  An easy add to any outdoor display, make sure you are only lit up when you want to be, and save on energy costs!  Because that sinking feeling of having to turn off the lights after you are already in bed is a holiday buzz kill.
  • Lit Walkways — Landscape lighting is always practical for walkways, but at holiday times luminating can make it even more fun.  Whether you are thinking temporary pathway lighting, or a more permanent installed lighting, either create a beautiful aesthetic this time of year.  Swapping out colored bulbs in permanent lighting can make your walkways pop.  See here for fun pathway lighting.
  • LED Lighting — LED outdoor lights burn with less energy, are brighter, and come in a variety of colors.  LED lighting has found its day (and night!)  When you are deciding on your string lighting, consider LED.
  • Holiday Colored Bulbs — Bulbs come in many colors, and around the holidays or for a party, it is fun to swap out a normal incandescent white bulb for a colored one for a holiday festive feel.
  • String Light Safety — Safety First is always a good policy.   Look for string lights with UL on it, meaning they are tested by a third party.  Also, if the label is red, you can use the lights outside, green for indoor use only.
  • GFCI Outlets — If you are channeling your inner Clark Griswold, but do not have GFCI outlets (or enough of them), make sure you install a few before you decorate your exterior.  They are convenient, but most of all, the safest way to plug in your outdoor lighting.
  • Battery Operated Lights — Easy and safe, these “fairy lights” are a great way to decorate indoors.  Put some strands in mason jars or vases with holiday bulbs,  or wrap your chandeliers with them for added sparkle.
  • Porch Light Covers — Who doesn’t want to see more Frosty The Snowmen?  These covers simply hang over your existing porch lights (for example, click here) and create holiday cheer in no time, and no effort!
  • Vintage Appeal — Feeling nostalgic?  Many vintage décor items are making comebacks.  Tinsel, ceramic trees with lights, and vintage bubble lights are all back and easy to purchase!
  • Hiring Walter Electric to Hang Your Lights — There is no better gift to yourself than to hire the experts.  Walter Electric Electricians are ready to lend a hand to help give your home that holiday sparkle.
